Rehoming Your Dog
Making the decision to rehome a dog is never easy.
Whether it’s due to a major life change, health challenges, or circumstances beyond your control, sometimes owners find themselves needing to find a new home for their dog.
If you need to rehome your dog, Golden Bond Retriever Rescue can help guide you through the process and ensure they are placed in a safe, loving home.
When You Need to Find a New Home for Your Dog
Sometimes, despite your best efforts, circumstances change and keeping your dog is no longer possible. In these situations, working with a rescue organization can help ensure your dog is placed in a safe, well-matched home.
Dogs come to Golden Bond Retriever Rescue for many reasons, including:
- Changes in family circumstances (such as divorce, relocation, or illness)
- Allergies
- Loss of a caregiver
- Behavioral or training challenges
- Needing expensive veterinary care
Regardless of the situation, our goal is always the same, to place each dog in a safe, loving, and appropriate long-term home.
How the Process Works

Preparing Your Dog for Rehoming
To help your dog transition successfully, we ask that you:
- Ensure vaccinations are up to date
- Provide recent veterinary information
- Share as much detail as possible about your dog’s behavior, routines, and needs
This information helps us make the best possible match.
Contribution Toward Care
Golden Bond Retriever Rescue incurs significant costs for each dog, including veterinary care, food, transportation, and foster support.
We ask for a voluntary, tax-deductible contribution to help offset these expenses when relinquishing a dog.
Important Note About Stray Dogs
State law requires that stray dogs be surrendered to a local animal shelter.
Golden Bond Retriever Rescue is not able to accept stray dogs directly.
Our Commitment
Since our founding, Golden Bond Retriever Rescue has helped thousands of retrievers find new, loving homes.
We take great care in making thoughtful matches, giving each dog the best chance at a successful new beginning.
FAQs about Rehoming Dogs
We appreciate your patience as we work to find the safest and most appropriate placement for each dog.
The well-being of every dog in our program is our top priority.
Dogs accepted into Golden Bond Retriever Rescue are placed in foster homes where they receive care, evaluation, and support while we work to find the right adoptive match. We carefully screen adopters and focus on making thoughtful, lasting placements rather than rushing the process.
In general, we respect the privacy of adoptive families while remaining focused on the long-term well-being of the dog. In some cases, updates may be shared when appropriate.
Our team can discuss available options based on your situation and the needs of the dog.
Our team works hard to understand each dog’s personality, needs, and history so we can make the best possible match.
While final placement decisions are made by Golden Bond Retriever Rescue, any information you share about your dog’s preferences, routines, or behavior helps us identify a home where they are most likely to thrive.
However, caring for rescue dogs involves significant costs, including veterinary care, vaccinations, food, transportation, and foster support. If you are able to contribute toward your dog’s care, your donation is greatly appreciated and helps us continue supporting dogs in need.
If you have questions about the surrender process or would like to discuss your situation, please contact us directly.
